World Art Dubai, Red Bull partner for urban art installation

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: World Art Dubai, a new art fair concept designed to give Dubai’s international community access to affordable global art, has partnered with Red Bull for a unique, outdoor urban art project dubbed Al Muka3ab.

Al Muka3ab will see Sasan Saidi - a renowned Berlin-based artist and long-time Red Bull collaborator - turn an eight-metre-by-ten-metre, cube-shaped canvas into a fully-fledged art installation during next month’s inaugural World Art Dubai, which runs April 8-11 at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

“I’m really excited about being part of the first-ever World Art Dubai,” said Sasan Saidi. “The piece I’m planning for Al Muka3ab will focus on the transparency of how we live in this day and age; our lives are on show, we are like fish inside an aquarium. I’m exploring ways to incorporate elements of what lies outside the cube across the city of Dubai, as well as the film and cinematography elements lying within it. Ultimately, the piece will only take proper shape once I am in there, in the moment and raring to go.”

Doubling up as a pop-up cinema, Al Muka3ab will also screen nightly art-house shorts and music documentaries throughout the four-day affordable art fair. Designed to showcase artistic expression in various forms, confirmed screenings to date include:

  • Let’s Make A Spaceship: a 30-minute documentary detailing the creation of an iconic spaceship-themed DJ booth used by popular electronic dance music artist Skrillex on his Summer Mothership Tour.
  • @ LARGE: half-hour profiles of two distinctive artists whose stories are interwoven around a common theme. The programme is an exploration of the concept of universal beauty and an inspirational journey into the world of creativity.
  • NoLA Rising: a non-profit art initiative born in New Orleans that aims to broaden perspectives and opinions on public art by promoting accessibility to art regardless of socio-economic status.
  • Red Bull House of Art and Red Bull Music Academy presents…What Difference Does it Make?

The latest in a global series of mixed media art initiatives, Al Muka3ab follows the urban art traditions of Red Bull House of Art, Red Bull Art of Can and Red Bull Doodle Art. Red Bull will also house ‘The Container’ - an outdoor service station-meets-entertainment unit – at World Art Dubai.
