Premiere Italian Soprano Elena Monti to hold a Master Class in Manila

The Societa’ Dante Alighieri (SDA) Comitato di Manila and the Lyric Opera of the Philippines (LyrOpera), under the high patronage of the Italian Embassy in the Philippines present world-renowned Italian Soprano, Elena Monti in a learning exchange with Filipino singers and audience on June 3, Friday 3 PM-5 PM at the University of Sto. Tomas, Manila.
Opera features different art forms: music, performance and language. Opera was born in Italy around the 1600s and spread throughout Europe during the Renaissance period. Today, Italian Opera plays a dominant role in the history of the form, with the Teatro alla Scala (La Scala) in Milan. Only the best singers perform at this prestigious theater where it hosts the world’s finest artists for the past 200 years.

Many of world’s finest singers have appeared at La Scala di Milano over the last 200 years including Elena Monti. She joins the ranks of famous cellist Antonio Toscanini and Soprano Renata Tebaldi.

Elena Monti’s career traces back to her hometown in Milan, Italy where she graduated at the top of her class at the School of Music in 1996. She later won several Competitions, in Italy and abroad, as well as the First Prize in the "Altamura-Caruso" International Voice Competition in Gibraltar. In September 1997, she won the selections for the La Scala Singing Academy.

She also held various concerts all over the world- in Tokyo and at the Teatro Real in Madrid. She debuted the role of Violetta in La Traviata at Teatro la Fenice in Venice. She has worked with various conductors such as Gerd Albrecht, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Aldo Ceccato, Ottavio Dantone, Djasung Kakhidze, Riccardo Muti, Jeffrey Tate,Nello Santi, Robin Ticciati, Diego Matheuz,Massimo Zanetti among others. Societa’ Dante Alighieri (SDA) Comitato di Manila as a promoter of Italian language and culture in the world partners with Lyric Opera of the Philippines in organizing the Opera Master Class with Elena Monti.

Signora Monti will be sharing her expertise in with Filipino Opera singers through a master class at the UST Conservatory of Music. In a master class, an expert gives advice to highly advanced students on how to improve in their discipline. The student performs a song and the master gives advice on how to improve on the performance. Often, the master gives anecdotes about her own experiences and demonstrations on how the piece may be improved.

In this Opera Mater Class Signora Monti will be exchanging insights with Filipino tenor Cloi Sugano and sopranos, Camille Juanitez, Kinah Jorge, Ivette Salas and Ma. Gereberne Lozada. Signora Monti will also be sharing her professional experiences and career highlights not just to the participants but the public.

Societa Dante Alighieri Comitato di Manila and Lyric Opera of the Philippines invite the public to take part of this learning exchange as spectators of the event. Opera Master Class with Elena Monti launches the upcoming L’Opera on Wheels, which will feature shortened and tourable versions of famous Italian opera performed by top Filipino opera singers. SDA Manila and LyrOpera present the classic art form in a format that is both of high standards and relevance. L’Opera on Wheels will stage six shows in Manila from September till December 2016 and will feature Italy’s most famous comic operas: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte and Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. Opera Class with Elena Monti will be held at the Recital Hall 2 at the 5th Flor at the Albertuse Magnus Bldg of the University of Sto. Tomas.
